Understanding Complex PTSD: The Unseen Impact of Trauma
Complex PTSD is a chronic disorder resulting from complex trauma, which rewires the brain and leads to irreversible damage. While healing modalities exist, full recovery is currently unattainable. Victims endure ongoing torment, overshadowed by perpetrators who evade justice, highlighting the profound and unrelenting impact of this condition on daily life.
Complex PTSD is a disorder for which there are treatment modalities of healing; but, just like the symptoms of hyper-vigilant survival mode, the activity of healing will remain perpetual because the state of healed, with today’s science, is currently unobtainable. Why? The Scientific Studies and Medical Journal Articles state that complex trauma physically re-wires the brain. This is a polite way of saying it causes irreparable brain damage.
With the growing awareness of epigenetics and neuro-plasticity, we know new neuro-pathways can be formed. However, the damaged, malfunctioning pathways still remain. Short of some pretty barbaric procedures that essentially constitute surgical, chemical, or electro-magnetic lobotomization, scarring side-effects unknown, there currently is no evidence of full recovery.
The main horror of this disease caused by inescapable torment is that the perpetrators and enablers walk through their lives in blissful immunity from justice for the harm they caused, and go about deflecting the blame and disdain they deserve right back onto the victim whom no one believes.
Then, comes the horror of horrors:
The conversation with the psychiatrist who explains the Pulp Fiction-like biomechanics behind the apparent failed suicide attempts by overdose:
Complex PTSD keeps the body in perpetual survival mode. More than hyper-vigilance, more than hyper-alert, more than heightened senses, more than hyper-awareness, more than split-second discernment, more than hair-trigger reactions, is the importance of the automatic reflexive epinephrine dump that happens faster than the speed of unconscious thought in an instance of poisoning.
So, not only is Complex PTSD caused by inescapable torment, it results in literally inescapable torment.
Gives a whole new meaning for me to the lyrics of The Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet with Butterfly Wings.
