Beyond the ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’
An analytical look at the theology of the afterlife, the misinterpretation of grace, and the disconnect between modern Christian behavior and New Testament teachings on accountability.
The common cultural narrative regarding the afterlife often stands in stark contrast to the historical and theological tenets of Christianity. While many are taught that belief acts as an immediate “get out of jail free card,” a closer examination of scripture suggests a much more demanding expectation: that one must live as if every encounter is an encounter with the divine. This piece explores the tension between the modern practice of “deathbed” absolution and the core imperative of living a life that mirrors the teachings of Jesus.
Christmas is the Celebration of the Advent of the ‘Get Out of Jail Free Card’ of Good Friday
The only religion that believes you go straight to Heaven when you die is Christianity. Christians really should read their own sacred text. There are currently only three human beings in heaven: a prophet, the mother of god, and the messiah, himself. They are the only human beings who were assumed into heaven. All other humans who have died are sleeping in the Earth awaiting the Final Judgment Day. Yes, even all Christians who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are and will be in the ground asleep until the day of Final Judgment.
The story of heaven we tell children when ‘grandma’ dies, is just that…a story to calm children who have no understanding of death. It makes death feel less final to them without having to explain the entire Bible. The problem is, adults let that story perpetuate and never explained to their children that ‘Santa is not real’. Oh, children found out that Santa is not real and accepted the story about the material gift-giving saint was just a fun fairytale. No one in their religious communities ever told these children that the spiritual, eternal life-gifting ‘Santa’ did not grant immediate pass into heaven upon death. He only granted eventual pass into heaven upon final judgment.
That’s not the most disgusting thing about Christianity, though. The most disgusting thing about Christianity is what makes it Christianity—the belief that your sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. This belief allows these assholes to behave however they want knowing all they have to do is invoke the name of Jesus Christ on their deathbeds and all is forgiven.
Have you ever wondered why Christians are THE MOST self-righteous assholes on the planet giving themselves permission to treat anyone they please like utter shit in the name of God? Well, if you didn’t know why, now you know.
They think one scapegoat pays for all past, present, and future sins and all who commit them are off the hook, if they invoke the name. Well, I’ve got news for them, READ YOUR NEW TESTAMENT! Jesus, himself, says it is not enough to just believe in him, you must believe in him so much that you live your life like him and as if everyone you encounter IS him.
Look at the world today. Those who are behaving THE WORST are Christians. Even atheists behave better; because, they know they have only one chance to leave a lasting positive impression upon the world. Christians don’t give a rat’s ass about leaving an impression. It’s all about the after-life and having the least amount of human struggle while waiting in this life. That effort to lessen struggle is only about their own struggle, to hell (and that is sometimes a literal sentiment} with everyone else.
If you look up the Aleister Crowley’s Rede of the Golden Dawn, you would see Christian behavior right there in black and white: “Do What Thou Wilt Be the Whole of the Law”.
